English: The Great Gatsby Unit CalendarThe Great Gatsby has potential to be students' favorite novel in high school, and I intended to help them get to that point with the text. This calendar includes lots of communication, collaboration and fun! The students afterward said that it was among their favorite novels they have ever read, and some mentioned that it is the only novel they ever actually read in high school!

English: Persuasive WritingIn my observation in May 2019, I worked with students on Ethos, Pathos and Logos. I gave each table group a famous speech, and had them read through it as a table group. From there they were meant to make note of all instances of Ethos, Pathos and Logos. As a table they determined who the speaker and audience was, and why the writer may have chosen to make one of the three more dominant than another. They filled out the graphic organizer at the end of each speech, and shared their findings with the class. Please feel free to use!

Film STudies: War Films (Distance Learning)This is a really fun unit that the students worked on. They were asked to choose three films from a list of war films. They chose one from 1915-1970, one from 1971-2000 and one from 2001-present. We examined the role of the pro-war and anti-war film. In this unit, we paid special attention to the use of camera angles and shots in order to develop a deeper understanding of how character portarayal can affect the purpose of the film.
